Mestre Paulo Ribeiro

Martial art

Taekwondo

The Korean martial art is where the Master comes from: from the 1989 World Championship in South Korea to classes for children and adults in Balneário Camboriú.

With the Master

Mestre Paulo Ribeiro learned from Grão-Mestre (Grandmaster) Te Bo Lee, competed at the 1989 World Championship in South Korea and won gold at the 1990 Brazilian Championship. Today he teaches children, teenagers and adults, from the basics to the black belt.

As he reminds his students, the spirit of Taekwondo comes down to five words: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.

Competitions and events

Balneário Camboriú has hosted the Open BC Taekwondo Cup for years: the 17th edition took place in February 2015 at the Irineu Bornhausen Gym, and in February 2024 the Master celebrated the 25th Open Camboriú, with athletes from Argentina.

In 2018, the Summer Martial Arts Games took the mat to Praça Tamandaré, on the waterfront, with teams from Paraguay and Argentina.

Ranks and the black belt

Progress happens belt by belt, through grading exams. The Master’s students took black belt exams with FETESC and the National League in 2017 and 2018.
