Muaythai

In Santa Catarina, the Thai martial art is organized by FECAMTT, the Santa Catarina Traditional Muaythai Federation, led by the Master since 2013.

The federation

FECAMTT is based in Balneário Camboriú (CNPJ 14.436.285/0001-12) and is affiliated with the Brazilian Traditional Muaythai Confederation (CBMTT). It holds registration no. 237/CED/2022 with the State Sports Council and was declared a state public-interest organization by Law 19,281 of April 11, 2025.

The federation runs state tournaments, qualifiers and refereeing courses, and selects Santa Catarina’s athletes for national and international competitions.

Muaythai at the Open Games

The request to include Muaythai in JASC, the Santa Catarina Open Games, was submitted to FESPORTE, the state sports foundation, in 2013. On January 23, 2019, the president of FESPORTE met with FECAMTT to discuss it, and the sport joined that year’s games, with regionals in Joinville, Florianópolis and Criciúma. The Joinville regional saw the debut of the Wai Kru category, the traditional Muaythai salute.

In May 2026, Pinhalzinho hosted the start of the regionals on the road to JASC 2026.

On the world stage

In February 2014 FECAMTT organized the Beach Battle on the Balneário Camboriú waterfront, a qualifier for the World Championship. In June 2025, at the WBC Muaythai World Championship in Verona, Italy, with around 900 athletes from 80 countries, a 16-year-old athlete from Balneário Camboriú became junior world champion and Leandro Veiga took silver in the adult division.

In July 2025, the Master led the 30-strong Brazilian delegation (6 coaches and 24 athletes aged up to 22) at the WBC Muaythai Summer Camp in Ayutthaya, Thailand.
